Making sure your breastfeeding experience is a happy one
Lactation consultants
Breastfeeding may be natural, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy, and many new mums need a bit of extra help. When you’re in the baby bubble and surviving on minimal sleep, life can feel stressful if breastfeeding isn’t going to plan. But there is help if you’re struggling. And having the care and support of a certified lactation consultant is an absolute game changer.
Learn how to read your baby’s cues
Lactation consultants, also known as breastfeeding consultants, coaches or specialists, are trained healthcare professionals who focus on you and your baby as a tiny team. During a remote or in-person consultation, they’ll help you understand your baby’s cues and troubleshoot any issues, giving you strategies and confidence to make your breastfeeding experience a happy one.
Practical assistance, emotional support
Breastfeeding challenges are not uncommon. If you think you need help, seek advice straight away. Minor issues can quickly escalate but most problems are simple to fix if caught early. It’s always good to talk, and sometimes, particularly if you’re a first-time mum, you just need to be reassured.
